Mudanya has taken the first step to shape its future with a sustainable and participatory model in tourism. The Advisory Board of the Tourism Workshop to be held under the title of “Traces of the Past, Tourism of the Future” has convened. Deniz Dalgıç the Mayor of Mudanya stated that Mudanya could make a significant breakthrough with tourism.
The first step was taken for the Mudanya Tourism Strategy and Master Plan, which was prepared to make a breakthrough in the tourism sector in Mudanya. The Tourism Workshop Advisory Board Meeting, organized under the title of “Traces of the Past, Tourism of the Future”, was held in the historical Tirilye Taş Mektep. Academicians, business owners and tourism professionals attended the meeting.
Mudanya Mayor Deniz Dalgıç drew attention to the cultural, natural and historical riches of Mudanya in his opening speech, emphasizing that these values should be evaluated through tourism. Mayor Dalgıç said, “We believe that Mudanya can make a significant breakthrough with tourism. However, for this, we must first unite in the consciousness of being a Mudanya and form a common front.” Stating that Mudanya has played important roles culturally, economically and politically throughout history, but has taken on the identity of a summer resort town in the last 50 years, Dalgıç said, “We set out to regain this loss of identity. Mudanya residents must first realize the values we possess, and then we must tell Turkey and the world.”
SUSTAINABLE AND PARTICIPATORY TOURISM
Mayor Dalgıç stated that one of the most important values of Mudanya is the Armistice of Mudanya, and that the city has a great tourism potential with its beaches, archaeological sites and cultural heritage, and said that these values are not being utilized sufficiently. Stating that they want to progress with common sense, not alone, as the local government, in order to shape the future of Mudanya, Dalgıç spoke as follows:
“We think that Mudanya’s rise will come from tourism. We want to determine our strategy by organizing special meetings on different topics such as culture, sea, art, gastronomy. Of course, by preserving its values… This is not something that a local government can do alone. As a local government, we wanted to walk this path together because we believe in sharing and common sense. The Mudanya I want to see is a city that is alive with its people, that is not disgruntled with its fate, that looks to the future with more hope, that has lively people on the streets, and that is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. I really believe that this can be done. If we draw a correct roadmap together, determine our first strategy at the end of these meetings, and turn this into a Tourism Master Plan, I think Mudanya has a very bright future.”
A ROADMAP WILL BE DETERMINED THROUGH THEMATIC WORKSHOPS
Following the opening speech, presentations were made under the titles of “Mudanya’s Tourism Potential and Future”, “From Production to Plate, from Street to Market”, “From Local to Global”, “Tourism Respecting the City, Permanent Heritage for the Future”, “Marketing, Guidance and Tourism Networks”. The current tourism potential was evaluated and a consensus was reached on determining basic principles and long-term goals.
Within the scope of Mudanya Tourism Strategy and Master Plan, it is aimed to advance the process with workshops to be organized every month with themes such as “Nature and Marine Tourism”, “Gastronomy”, “Cultural Heritage”, “Local Economy and Entrepreneurship”. The plan is aimed to be completed and put into practice by the end of 2025.
